How To Analyse An IELTS General Writing Task 1 Question
Exam pressure can prevent you from thinking clearly so it is important to take a breather and calmly try to understand the question.
Task 1 General questions are normally not too complicated and will always contain a background sentence and three bullet points.
The first thing to do is underline key words and phrases that you need to focus on in order to fully answer the question.
Here is an example:
WRITING TASK 1 -You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
A friend has agreed to look after your house and pet while you are on holiday.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
• give contact details for when you are away
• give instructions about how to care for your pet
• describe other household duties
After you underline the key words the question would look something like this:
